Let me introduce myself. My name is Ken McClellan. I am a biker, and by some I am known as the Biker Geek. I was born and raised in the Frankfort/Elberta area of Michigan. I graduated Frankfort (Michigan) High School in 1981, and shortly thereafter I joined the Navy. Late in my ten years of service I went to school for Graphic Design and Computer Graphics at Platt College in San Diego, CA. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1992, I came back home to the Traverse City area and began working as a graphic designer for a local company. After two years of design work, I left the industry due to better paying jobs in manufacturing. After losing several jobs due to the failing economy, I again turned to website and graphic design full time on my own. In 1997, I discovered the wonders of the Internet, as well as the joys of Hot Wheels collecting. I discovered that there was a great need for an online price guide for Hot Wheels, so with a lot of research, and a lot of trial and error, I created the Internet's first online price guide for Hot Wheels, Alleyguide.com. Alleyguide became so popular that it attracted the interest of many online businesses wishing to buy advertising space on the site. It was because of Alleyguide that people on the Internet still know me as the Alleydude. After recieving "The Best of the Net" award for September 1999 from About.com, and being listed as a "Don't Miss" website in the Fall 2000 Guide To Collecting On The Web, Mobilia Magazine contacted me about purchasing my website. They flew me out to Vermont, and to make a long story short, after about a month of negotiating a deal was struck, and Alleyguide.com became the property of Mobilia Inc., and I was contracted to maintain my own website. After about a year of this arrangement, Mobilia went broke, and Alleyguide disappeared off the Internet for good.
I have taken on several freelance jobs in recent years. My first truly professional web design job was for Leelanau Industries of Traverse City, Michigan. I have since designed websites for the Motorcycle Cannonball, Lakewood Properties of Interlochen, MI, Magdalene Press, a pet waste disposal company called K9Poo, and The Polish Racing Drivers of America Official Website. | |
